Mission
China's automotive industry achieved spectacular growth in both 2009 and 2010—it was propelled to the top of the global automotive market by 2009. The industry not only avoided a global industry contraction but also reached a landmark amount of 20 million automobile units sold annually. Spurred by favorable policies, China's automotive industry enters a new era with great opportunities and uncertainties. As most local and foreign OEMs are accelerating their plans to expand into China, developments in the coming years will leave a lasting impact to the global automotive industry.
Key issues that will determine the sustainability of growth and transformation of the Chinese automotive industry include how OEMs will deal with the continuous emergence of new consumer segments, how they strengthen and develop core technologies along with their component suppliers, and how they effectively develop and grow downstream services. Equally important issues for both OEMs and joint venture companies include promoting greater adaptation of "new energy vehicles", as well as effectively handling opportunities in overseas markets.
